The nickname was a tribute to how the Premier of New South Wales managed to stay stain-free from controversy.
Well, it looks as though it might be time for a change of moniker.
The proverbial is now, well and truly, starting to stick to the Premier.
After a marathon night of debate, the NSW Government passed its legislation to shut down the greyhound industry.
Yet it has done so at a cost.
The Government’s position caused several National MPs to either cross the floor or abstain from voting.
That’s not a great look by any government’s standards.
The Baird Government’s decision to close greyhound racing has not seen waves of outcry hit the Illawarra Mercury offices.
However, another issue of the two-month closure of Bulli Pass for remedial works certainly has.
What’s common in both of those cases is the complete lack of any public consultation.
The greyhound industry closure was announced on Facebook.
The Bulli Pass closure was announced late one afternoon by general press release.
The word “arrogant” is seemingly starting to be closely and often linked to Premier Baird and this government.
The gloss has truly worn off the Premier and his government.
The expression “gone to the dogs” might be able to be applied to more than the greyhound industry at the moment.
STEELING FOR A FIGHT
On another front, the Greens’ steel procurement bill returns to the NSW Parliament on Thursday.
The NSW Government craftily ensured debate on the bill was pushed back until after the winter break.
Bluescope CEO Paul O’Malley was in Wollongong on Wednesday and made his thoughts on steel procurement completely clear.
Mr O’Malley labelled governments taxing Australian steelmakers while buying cheap steel from overseas as “unfair”.
“If they’re going to buy from overseas they should take into account the taxes they put on us in determining whether we’re price competitive,” Mr O’Malley said.
“I don’t think that’s done properly at the moment.”
