With less than two weeks before the two heats in Crown Street Mall on September 3 and 4 budding models interested in entering the competition need to do so this week.
Event founder Robyn te Velde said it was important to get the tuition before the competition fully swings into action.
This week Ashleigh Doherty 17, Prue Marning 15 and Amalia Tavernese 17 started turning up the heat by trying on some ‘red hot’ new season fashions during a practice run in the city centre.
Mrs te Velde said on September 3 and 4 there would be 50 models taking to the catwalk on a 50 metre ‘red carpet’ runway in the mall near Wollongong Central.
“The De Lorenzo creative team are preparing the looks and new season styling in readiness for the big weekend,” she said.
Throughout the competition makeup artists, hair designers and fashion stylists will help the models.
Mrs te Velde said those competing in the heats on September 3 and 4 would be vying for a spot in the semi finals in the mall from 11.30am on September 10.
Successful models will be announced on the day of each heat run with the help of Mercedez-Benz Wollongong.
Mrs te Velde said the first weekend of September would mark the start of a Spring Fashion Week in Wollongong supporting Highlights on Mental Health.
She said it would also coincide with and help celebrate the opening of H&M which will enjoy its first day of trade on September 1.
“A super group of dancers from the VPA Dance Studio, Wollongong will open the ITM Heats under the bridge between David Jones and the new H&M. Unique opportunities for local aspiring models will be ‘up for grabs’ right here in the Gong! Judges will be on the look out for fresh new Australian faces in Wollongong. Illawarra’s Top Model directly links Wollongong to the fashion capitals of the world,” she said.
Mrs te Velde said international casting agent CORE Artist Management EU was again visiting Wollongong during the competition to help judge Illawarra’s Top Model 2016. Her son Paul James Hay is the proprietor and director of the the agency.
“The open winner will be treated to an all expenses paid return airfares trip to Europe, incorporating placement opportunities with a network of leading European agencies, sponsored by Core Model Management EU..which will offer our top model winner the chance to work with the worlds leading brands and industry icons,” Mrs te Velde said.
