The Illawarra Cutters secured second spot on the ladder ahead of next week’s finals with a gutsy 28-20 victory over Wyong Roos at Morry Breen Oval on Saturday.

The home side struck first after just six minutes when Mitch Cornish short ball found Zane Tetevano to score. They doubled their lead seven minutes later when Chris Smith stepped his way across from close range for a 12-0 lead.
The Cutters hit back through Chris Lewis in the 19th minute and cut the lead to 12-10 before Jay Gallagher crossed soon after and Levi Dodd also bagged four-pointers to take a 16-12 lead.
A Mitch Cornish penalty goal on halftime cut the margin to 16-12 at the interval and Roos re-took the lead through Matt Ikavalu after the resumption.
With the match slipping, the Cutters stormed home with Lewis scoring his second and Dodd also completing his double while Shaun Nona added the extras to take the final score to 28-22..
