Starting at Scarborough Hotel at 5am on Saturday morning Ms Mouawad motored her way south finishing at Croome Road Sporting Complex in just over seven hours.
“I did it in seven hours, 27 minutes, 55,240 steps and burned 1491.4 calories,” she said.
It comes less than a year after she decided to do a walk along much of the annual Convoy route to help Mount Kembla Hotel and Caltex Illawarra raise funds for the Illawarra Convoy Lead Bike auction.
She called her fundraiser “Mezzathon” and has enjoyed support from many people such as David Drain from Mount Kembla Hotel and Marty Haynes from i98fm.
In 2015 the walk worked so Ms Mouawad raised around $6,500 and has decided to do it again.
On Saturday she was well ahead of schedule when she joined the traditional Convoy route at Springhill Road.
Last year she completed the journey in just over eight hours and said if she beat that time her first corporate sponsor to sign on for 2016 offered to double their donation.
Evan Smith and Andrew Hannam, of Brookes Engraving, also threw out a challenge to other businesses to get behind Mezzathon at https://www.facebook.com/MtKemblaConvoy/?hc_location=ufi and Ms Mouawad eagerly set herself a mission to raise more for local children.
Ms Mouawad’s support crew and supporters took donations along the way on Saturday.
And donations can still be made in a special account set up for that purpose.
And the Mount Kembla and Caltex Illawarra Convoy Lead Bike auction team have more fundraising activities planned at Mount Kembla Village Hotel in coming weeks. After the walk she thanked everyone for their support and said those who gathered for the finish made it an amazing conclusion to her marathon effort.
“This isn’t about me. It is about the kids. I’ve never seen a community get behind an event like Convoy.”
The actual Illawarra Convoy will be run for the 12th year on November 20. Marty Haynes closely followed Ms Mouawad’s progress on Saturday and described what she and so many in the community do to support the Convoy cause as amazing.
