The Preston North End defender has been withdrawn due to a toe injury.

"Bailey has a minor injury that he has been nursing and although he played for Preston overnight we thought it better for him to stay in the UK," Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou said. "We have two tough matches in quick succession and will need everyone ready to go.

"Josh Risdon has come into the group recently and I have no doubt that he will do a job if required over the next two matches."

Australia's contingent of Europe based internationals are set to arrive in Perth with mixed feelings about their club's early season performances after a weekend of contrasting fortunes for the men who will carry Australia's World Cup qualification hopes over the next nine months.

Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic enjoyed a 4-1 success over Aberdeen, scoring in the 90th minute, while goalkeeper Mat Ryan started in Valencia's 1-0 loss to Eibar in La Liga. Robbie Kruse was not involved in Bayer Leverkusen's 2-1 defeat by Borussia Moenchengladbach, while Chris Ikonomidis played no part in Lazio's 1-0 loss to Juventus.

Midfielder Massimo Luongo tasted success with Queens Park Rangers, who bounced back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory at newly promoted Wigan; this was a fixture that, not too long ago, was taking place in the Premier League, but both clubs have been on a roller coaster ride in the past few seasons in which the Latics dropped as low as League One before gaining promotion last year.

It was not such a memorable Aston Villa debut for Australia captain Mile Jedinak, whose move to the midlands was completed last week.

The midfielder picked up a yellow card in the 3-1 defeat at Bristol City, a loss which came after Villa had taken an early lead.

Mooy lit up the A-League last season for Melbourne City, his form good enough to earn him a move to the UK where he was "bought" by parent club Manchester City.

The Premier League giants then moved him on loan to Huddersfield, where he has enjoyed a dream campaign so far.

The Terriers were once one of the biggest clubs in England and won the league championship three seasons in a row – but that was back in the 1920s. For the last 50 years they have been bouncing up and down, mainly in the lower divisions, but they have begun this campaign in cracking form and now top the Championship table following their 1-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Coached by David Wagner, a former assistant of current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Town have taken 13 points from a possible 15 and are still unbeaten, having also won on the road against promotion favourites Newcastle in the opening weeks of the season.

Mooy has played in all five games and has won plenty of plaudits for his performances in the Huddersfield engine room.

Irvine, who played in Burton's 1-0 win over local rivals Derby County on Friday night, will not forget that game in a hurry.

He scored the only goal of the game, a first half header, to seal the points for the Championship new boys. It was the third game in succession that the midfielder, who became Burton's record signing when he moved south from Ross County to join Nigel Clough's team, had scored.

Burton are a wonderful advertisement for what can be achieved in the English game.

They only won promotion to the Football League having come up from the Conference at the end of the 2008-09 season, and now, seven years later, they are only one division away from playing in the El Dorado that is the Premier League.

Few would expect the Brewers – the town is famous for its beer industry – to reach those levels, but as Leicester proved last season, nothing, seemingly, is impossible in football.

For Irvine the move has so far been a terrific chance to showcase his talents in England – and learn from one of the more thoughtful managers in the game, Nigel Clough, who is back with Burton for his second spell having been instrumental in developing the infrastructure which helped the club gain promotion to the Football League seven seasons earlier.

Jedinak had played for former team Crystal Palace in the Premiership club's opening day home defeat by West Brom but had not had a game since, so he will only have gained from the run out against Bristol City. He is expected to become a key figure for Roberto di Matteo as the Villa manager looks to take the giant Birmingham club back into the top flight at the first time of asking.
