The night has been organised by Wollongong’s Kristie Poole as part of her mission to save the Moon Bears. Anderson and Flanagan are performing to a sold-out show where all proceeds go to Animals Asia Foundation’s Moon Bear Rescue mission. It is not the first time Ms Poole has held a comedy fundraiser for the Moon Bears and it will take her fundraising for the cause past $100,000.
“This is my third event. It is a really special time for me as my original goal was $10,000 at my first event. I'll have a few auction items. And donations on the night are welcome,” she said.
Ms Poole said since her last Comedy for a Cause fundraising night at IPAC with Arj Barker in May 2013 Ms Poole has been back onsite helping out at a Moon Bear sanctuary in China to see first hand where the money raised is going.
“I will be heading to Vietnam again in November to visit the Vietnam sanctuary. My trips are all self-funded,” she said.
Ms Poole said the plight of Moon Bear’s crammed into small cages and milked for their bile is so bad she wants to raise more awareness so more can be done to save more from cruel captivity.
“Wollongong have always been so supportive of these events..So I am going to continue to bring big names to Wollongong as my way of thanking our community. More than half of China is now bear farm free. And Wollongong has played a huge role seeing that the bears who are rescued are cared for.”
