Dylan Christopher Daniel Davies, 40, from Bundanoon, was paid $19,441 in carer payments between September 2011 and August 2012.
However, the court heard at the same time he was working for Serco Sodexo Defence Services, earning an average of $1700 a fortnight.
He failed to declare a total income of $44,335 in the 11-month period.
He would have only been entitled to receive $1656 in benefits had he truthfully declared the extra cash, the court heard.
In documents tendered to Wollongong court, prosecutors said Davies had a “legal obligation” to report to Centrelink any change in his personal circumstances that would alter the amount of money he received.
They said his offending represented an “ongoing course of conduct” to defraud the government.
