Last weekend the Wollongong Game Club tournament was extremely well run and went off without a hitch with a large cross-section of species caught and tagged and released.
There were plenty of sharks tagged and captured as well as some good sized yellowfin tuna. The full list results and prize winners and capture details are posted up on their Facebook page.
Snapper again played hard to get in close last weekend but those who ventured out a bit wider than the 50 metre depth line, found big schools of hungry reds with a couple of boats from Sydney showing the locals how it’s done with some big fish in their eskies.
Biggest fish weighed in at the shop was a tad over the 6 kilo mark and most fish - as current trend continued, were taken on jigged 150mm plastics but the pillie and cuttlefish baits were not that far behind.
The flathead bite over the last couple of weeks has been nothing short of insane with some huge fish being caught in good numbers up and down our coastline.
The drifts off Stanwell Park, Bulli and Wollongong sands produced some cracking fish over the weekend with the average size being close to 60cm mark again.
Beaches and rocks again have fished well with still plenty of hefty drummer blackfish and bream coming from the washes and dawn/dusk have seem some monster tailor landed as well as salmon.
There have been plenty of whiting caught off the beaches as well and if you are not adept at catching your own live worms, the frozen gotcha red devil worms were held in high regard with plenty of reports saying how these baits cleaned up.
Mulloway have been about in good numbers although over the last week size has seen a range of smaller fish come ashore but remember that fresh is best, so spend the time chasing squid or tailor baits.
