Wollongong’s inaugural Fringe Festival kicks off Friday night with a free opening party from 5pm in the Arts Precinct between the IPAC and Town Hall.
The party will be in full swing with live music, skate demos, interactive light and tech displays, art exhibitions, theatre and outdoor cinema.
Over the next nine-days the city will host a variety of events including a secret block party on Saturday (location to be confirmed by text message), a live comic book reading of Pat Grant’s graphic novel BLUE, a “Cheese TV” night at Rad Bar paying homage to the 90s television show and Wollongong’s first ever “Yo Mama Battle!”
Wollongong Comedy managing director Shane Moon who’s organised the Sydney vs Wollongong battle explained audience participation is a must while comedians face-off against each other with “Yo Mama” jokes.
“As long as the audience cheers they can stay in the game,” she said.
“It’s amazing that you don’t have to travel anywhere to see great stuff and let people know there is so much great stuff available in Wollongong.”
The Fringe Festival culminates with the Yours and Owls music festival over the October long weekend.
