A former Illawarra resident has fronted Wollongong court accused of sexually abusing a “vulnerable” primary school-aged girl then threatening her with a knife on six occasions in 2009.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is facing five charges of having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10 while threatening to inflict actual bodily harm, and one count of attempted sexual intercourse.
It is alleged he assaulted the girl, who was aged six or seven at the time, repeatedly throughout 2009 while living in the Illawarra.
It was not revealed in court when police became aware of the matter however the man was arrested last month.
He sought bail on Tuesday, with the court hearing he had no prior criminal record and denied the allegations.
However, Magistrate Susan McGowan refused the application.
