A 28-year-old man has been charged with weapons offences after a police search of his car allegedly uncovered a loaded gun and a samurai sword.

At 12.45pm on Tuesday police received a call of a man acting suspiciously outside a house in Palmyra Avenue, Thirroul.
Half an hour later police pulled over a silver Ford Ranger in York Street, Russell Vale.
Police spoke to the 28-year-old driver before searching him and his vehicle.
The search allegedly uncovered a cache of weapons, including a loaded pistol, a silencer, handcuffs, knuckle dusters, numerous knives, a samurai sword and nunchucks.
He was charged with six offences including possessing a loaded gun in public and three charges of carrying a prohibited weapon.
He was refused bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday.
