DPI/Fisheries are expected to prosecute a local Illawarra seafood retailer and a local man for the alleged black market trading of two southern bluefin tuna approx 75 kilos each in weight and worth nearly $2000 when they visited the premises recently.

At the time of the inspection by Fisheries officers, the tuna were allegedly being processed for sale and the officers seized 112 kilograms of tuna from the retailer. Further investigations are continuing into the manager of the seafood shop and the man who allegedly sold the fish.
The manager will potentially face charges of buying a NSW endangered species and failing to obtain fish records, while the other man faces charges for selling the bluefin to the shop.

In further DPI/Fisheries news, a car and abalone was seized from a Sydney offender near Ulladulla back on August 17.
The 59-year-old Sydney visitor has allegedly trafficked 575 abalone and is facing prosecution after being caught and arrested as part of a lengthy investigation into the illicit trade in abalone from the NSW South Coast to receivers in Sydney.
Further investigations are continuing into other persons involved in the illegal abalone network.
