Amber Joy Poulton is set to star as Loretta Lynn in The Coal Miner’s Daughter when it comes to Wollongong on October 18, but hopes her current delays won’t hinder the show.
Ms Poulton is returning from a three month holiday in Western Australia with her partner and two sons.
Now she’s across the border and into the SA town of Ceduna she’s seeing first hand the devastation of recent storms which caused a statewide blackout.
“We’re on our way into the town where I’m supposed to do a festival this weekend but we’ve since found out they’ve cancelled the whole festival,” she said.
“We’ve come into D-Day, there’s no power ... we’ve been really lucky really, we’ve got kids in tents so it would have been a disaster.”
Poulton stars alongside Lizzie Moore (as Patsy Cline) and Denis Surmon (as Conway Twitty) in The Coal Miner’s Daughter, October 18 at IPAC; October 19 at Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre in Nowra.
Loretta is a superstar who rose from humble beginnings to be recognised as the first Queen of Country and first female Entertainer of the Year.
She was married at 15 with 4 children at 19 and a grandmother at 29.
Her first hit, ‘Honky Tonk Girl’, was recorded when she was 25 and led to an invitation from the Grand Ole Opry, where she played for 17 weeks straight.
Loretta came to the attention of her idol, Patsy Cline, and their close friendship is beautifully portrayed in Coal Miner’s Daughter.
