Mrs Redman is saddened to see the store finally closing this weekend but said she will continue to shop at Myer Shellharbour “if they expand the range like they had in Wollongong.
It was the best department store we ever had. Before Grace Bros opened in Wollongong I would go to Miranda to shop at Myer specifically. I have just liked their stores. I am really sad it is going. I think Wollongong is going to miss it”.
Mrs Redman said it was very exciting when the store opened and she has kept going back. She has worked in retail all her career and has always been impressed by the way Myer Wollongong is run.
“I have still go Christmas decorations I bought from them 30 years ago. I think most of my house is full of Grace Bros items to be honest,’’ she said.
‘’I have bought everything there over the years. Myer just had everything and it had the quality. You could get anything you wanted. It was just a really nice place to shop.
‘’David Jones didn’t have the range that Grace Bros had back then. It is very sad to see it go. Wollongong is not going to be the same without it I don’t think”.
Mrs Redman recalled the food court down the bottom in the early days and said it has always been a great store to shop for the whole family and get value for money.
Ros Williams, of Mount Keira, came into town on Friday especially to shop at Myer Wollongong one last time. “I’ve been shopping in this store about 30 years. For as long as it has been here. I got four bargains today”.
Mrs Williams doesn’t know what she is going to do for her Myer fix now because she doesn’t like shopping out of Wollongong.
“I will really miss it. I have always loved the ladies clothes. They have some really good brands. It is really good quality at reasonable prices. And I can always get something on sale.”
Mrs Williams likes shopping at David Jones as well and is excited about it taking over the Myer site and redeveloping it into a world class store.
Wollongong Central is planning to redesign the Gateway arm of the shopping precinct immediately after Myer closes. And it is about to welcome adventure and outdoors retailer Anaconda along with a brand new Rebel store.
