Zunic will tee off at the famous Carnoustie course, the venue for seven British Open tournaments.

The format combines 168 professionals chasing individual honours, while also being paired with high-profile amateurs for a teams competition. 

Zunic will combine with the founder of fashion label French Connection UK, taking on some giants of golf including Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen, Lee Westwood and reigning US Masters champion Danny Willett.

But adding a unique atmosphere to a professional tournament, Zunic will also be treading the same fairways as former sporting stars Ruud Gullit (football), Michael Vaughan and Jacques Kallis (cricket), as well as actor Hugh Grant and singer Ronan Keating. 

The former New Zealand Open winner will also play at nearby Kingbarns Golf Club, before teeing up at St Andrews for the third round.

Under the format, the leading 60 professionals and 20 teams compete on the final day, with the amateurs playing under a handicap format. 

Zunic finished tied for 25th at two over at the South Pacific Champinships in Noumea after scrambling to make the cut last month.

However, he started his lead-up to the Australian summer campaign in style, winning the $150,000 Northern Territory Championships in August.

Meanwhile, after a whirlwind international tour, Shellharbour’s Travis Smyth has spent more time bedridden than at the driving range in the past fortnight.

Smyth had played at the British Amateur Open and gained valuable experience in the US, before returning for a shot on the Asian circuit.

He was to play at the Asia Pacific Golf Championship Diamond Golf Cup in Japan last month, but was floored by a bout of food poisoning and forced to withdraw.

However, the world amateur No.63 will tee off at the Asia Pacific Championships in Korea on Thursday morning.
