A few kings to 10 kilos were landed but most hookups resulted in bust offs and near melted drags by unseen hoodlum-sized kings and the sighted free swimmers had rock anglers shaking at their size as they cruised back and forth right at their feet.
The fishing action should only get better over the next month, as the kingies start school up getting ready to spawn.
Inshore the waters have turned a bit greenish in colour and the current from the north has been running hard so best look for an eddy or a bit of slack to set your livies or even jig big plastics.
A welcome by-catch for a very happy angler were a couple of nice snapper to 6 kilos.
Flathead are starting to fire in Lake Illawarra with the water temp slowly rising and there is plenty of bait around at the moment. Unfortunately there have been multiple reports of a seal hanging around the bridge pylons that will steal both baits and hooked fish.
Reminder to all that seals are fully protected, so no silliness or stupidity please, just move on to another location.
With the water temp rising and bait moving, blue swimmer crabs should come on soon but early catches say the crabs are too hollow to keep.
