Marmont targets champ Chad

MOTOCROSS

Wollongong rider Jay Marmont admits to needing "a little bit of luck", but believes he can put another blemish on Chad Reed's imposing record when they meet at Phillip Island this weekend.

Marmont is the only man to beat the US-based star on the Australian Supercross tour, at Canberra in 2009.

Following victory in the previous round at Dubbo, the Kawasaki rider hopes history repeats.

"I'm really excited about Phillip Island.

"I think it's the pinnacle race of the season being at MotoGP and there's a lot of hype around it," he said.

"I'm feeling really confident on my KX450F at the moment.

"I feel that my fitness is exactly where I want it to be, I'm 100 per cent healthy and I'm honestly looking forward to taking the red plate to the battle with Chad.

"We're going to need a little bit of luck because Chad is an awesome rider, but I've beaten him before and I know that things can sometimes go your way on the night so therefore he's a beatable guy and I'm looking forward to racing him."

Marmont's win at Dubbo was his first with the Kawasaki team and on board the new 2013 KX450F.

Reed, 30, is on the comeback trail after a race fall in February.
