Hundreds of motorists were ensnared in an eight-kilometre queue after a southbound semitrailer overturned at Cataract Friday morning.
The truck had earlier departed Port Botany, bound of Nowra. It was carrying a container full of pet food supplies when it crashed into a concrete barrier and overturned, blocking both southbound lanes.
The 55-year-old male driver was unhurt in the crash and was interviewed by police at the scene.
Sergeant Darren Moulds, of Wollongong Highway Patrol, said investigating police were looking closely at the driver’s records.
“Police seized the driver’s work diary at the scene and are considering taking action regarding breaches of the fatigue regulations,” he said.
The crash occurred just four days after authorities closed Bulli Pass for two months worth of rock stabilisation works. The Pass was temporarily re-opened to ease Friday’s congestion.
