Wollongong Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery was among the special guests at the official opening of the new clubhouse on Wednesday.
After seeing the new state-of-the art event facility targeting more weddings, conferences and business events Cr Bradbery heard about progress on the next stage of work about to be undertaken by amalgamated partner Dapto Leagues Club.
He said after hearing about and seeing such investment in Wollongong he could be tempted to get into the swing of things and take some golfing lessons himself.
Dapto Leagues chief executive David Hiscox said a leading course designer was presently looking at the historic Illawarra course and designing improvements that will appeal to an international golfing market. It follows the signing of an exclusive deal with the world’s third largest golf management company Troon.
“We have a golf course architect engaged. She is one of the only female golf architects in Australia. I anticipate we will be taking something to the board for approval later this year. And we can then get started on the course,” Mr Hiscox.
