The annual celebration has its roots in Munich in 1810.
That was when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12.
To celebrate their union, Munich’s citizens were invited to join the celebrations in the fields at the front of the city’s gates.
Since then, Oktoberfest has gone around the world – including the German Club at Kembla Grange.
This Friday, they will kick off their 27th Oktoberfest, which will run until Sunday.
Events on the calendar include German dancing and music, a sausage eating contest, bands and a strong man and woman competition.
Children get in free and there will be plenty of activities for them as well.
