The Wollongong skyline in recent years is headed for the sky and it doesn’t show any sign of abating.
Earlier this week our photographer Adam McLean headed to the Mount Keira lookout to take some images of various points of the city.
What was clear in the images showing the scale of the CBD, was the building business is booming.
Cranes were hard at work re-shaping the city skyline.
On one day alone last year, the Southern Joint Regional Planning Panel approved $100 million worth of apartments in the form of two developments on that day alone.
Even so the boom of inner city apartment building appears to be developing even further.
There are now plans lodged with the Wollongong City Council for another high-rise residential and commercial tower.
The plans involve a 205-apartment, 16-storey building on the site of Kenny and Atchison Sts which currently houses Mitchell’s Fruit Market a sheet metal business.
“Former low scale commercial premises are making way for larger mixed use developments that are providing important apartment living, office space and retail space within close proximity of the established commercial areas and key transport hubs,” the application documents said.
It’s unlikely that this will be the last major development proposed for the city any time soon.
The cranes we see around the skyline now will be with us for some time.
LOST BATTLE, NOT WAR
The Sydney Kings unfortunately came, saw and conquered.
While arch enemy has won that battle, the war is not over and the Illawarra Hawks will be keen to atone for the loss when they come up against the Kings again in Sydney on October 24.
The Hawks have a tough run over coming weeks playing away to Melbourne on Sunday, in Perth on October 21 and then Sydney.
The Hawks aren’t home again until they host Perth at the WEC on Friday October 28.
It’s a massive month for our region’s National Basketball League club.
One which could be critical for coach Rob Beveridge and his boys as they strive to take another step towards the top.
