Emergency services were called to Wilton, near the Cordeaux Dam and colliery, about 12.30pm. The Mercury understands the man’s car was heading west when it ran off the road into scrub.
Police closed the road to allow CareFlight's rapid response rescue helicopter to land.
A specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic treated the patient for injuries to his upper body, shoulder and neck.
Suffering suspected limb fractures, he was flown to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
