WHAT WILL BE LEFT?
Despite growing discontent by community and regulators alike about the Baird government privatisation agenda (quaintly called "asset recycling"), Mr Baird continues to ignore those concerns and is selling everything not nailed down.

The sales of poles and wires and Pillar have met with opposition from the regulator and now look ill considered.
Yet continuing in the background is proposals to privatise land titles, sport and rec camps, housing, prisons, TAFE public hospitals and the list goes on.
All these sales of valuable public assets continue in secrecy under the guise of “cabinet in confidence and commercial in confidence reports and agreements", without adequate community consultation or cost benefit justification.
Baird says he is listening though I am not sure to whom.
Possibly only to his merchant banker mates who are snapping up these "business opportunities" at bargain basement prices.
We must act now to demand that this government rethink its current "privatise at all costs" ideology.
If we don't, come next election, Baird will disappear and leave this state with nothing except toll roads and sports stadiums.

NO MEANS NO
In response to the letter by Barry Swan, "Money Better Spent" (Illawarra Mercury, Saturday October 1, 2016), marriage "equality" activists just do not trust the Australian public with regard to the plebiscite, Mr Swan.
And do not lecture the community on the cost of the plebiscite Mr Swan as you never raised any concerns when Labor was in office and spent money irresponsibly and gave us a huge national debt.
No matter what you claim to be heterosexual, same-sex, transgender we have to face the reality that every child has biological parents both male and female and this is a natural process.
People seem to forget the campaign to change the Marriage Act has been going on since 2004.
In that time we have seen 18 failed attempts in our Commonwealth Parliament. The question should be asked: "When does no mean no?".

RICH AND POWERFUL
Two rich and powerful men, who love and care for their families, introduced new laws which would ultimately ruin the lives of families directly affected by those laws.
The rich and powerful men didn't care.
They laughed about it.
They are pillars of society. It wouldn't affect them.
These laws would help to make then more powerful, more popular, but unbelievably suddenly, those same two men faced a totally unexpected dilemma.
If they didn't repeal those new laws their own lives could be ruined.
They would lose what they love to do.
Their families would be shocked and disappointed.
So we all know what these two men did, don’t we?
After all they are politicians and they are still rich and powerful.

FIGHT COMMENDED
I commend those who fight the forced merger of Local Government. My solution is the creation of Shellharbour the Eighth State, the seventh State being Free State.
Google that to learn more.
The Eighth would have a single lean and efficient Government with low taxes, greater freedoms and genuine community consultation.
Something you don't get in NSW.
We would no longer be at the mercy of uncaring faceless bureaucrats and small 'p' politicians who ignore the will of the people.
J. Finkernagel, Shellharbour.
