The public want easier access to the station and the government want a cheaper solution.
The answer could be as simple as putting in a pedestrian level crossing with safety gates beside the stairs.
There used to be a traffic and pedestrian level crossing at that location many years ago.
So why not put back the pedestrian crossing eliminating the stairs?
It sounds like a cheap and sensible idea to me.
It is a win-win situation for all concerned.

DENY, DENY, DENY
In response to Adrian Devlin’s letter (Illawarra Mercury, September 23, 2016) it seems that while he cherry picks sections of the work by Professor Paul Kench (Auckland University coastal geomorphologist ) he neglects to read the full scope of the research.
This is very common for climate change deniers and those who believe in other equally wild conspiracy theories.
Professor Kench, does say that the fringing reefs around coral atolls and islands are growing in size.
He also says that the islands are changing in shape and that the rapid rise in salt water is effecting the availably of fresh drinking water and water for farming crops: “This raises questions for their ongoing habitation. How will physical changes to the islands affect drinking water supplies, and how will communities need to adapt their farming practices?”.
His field research was also completed in 2005 and does not include the recent and massive death of tropical corals from bleaching events caused all over the pacific ocean because of global warming.
If Mr Devlin is going to make claims about scientific research he should first read the research itself and keep up to date with the most recent developments.
As it stands, the possibility that we will face a flood of refugees from pacific islands due to climate change is still a high probability unless we start to take real action immediately.

SICK AND TIRED
Am I the only one that is sick and tired of seeing our jobs being exported overseas.
Am I a minority that is sick of seeing cheap, unsafe products being imported into my country.
Am i the only one annoyed of seeing exploited, cheap labour being used to replace the locals.
Is it true what most Liberal voters are saying that Malcolm has not done much in his inaugural year and that he does waffle a lot with his big long words?
He talks a lot about jobs and growth, but his Federal government doesn’t actually have a “Buy Australian” Act.
This would require all major government projects and services to use locally manufactured goods such as steel, iron ,clothing and equipment, as well as local services to get the job done.
It would secure jobs for local Australian workers , boost a stalling economy and ensure all government projects use materials we know are safe because of our high Australian standards .

GETTING PRIORITIES RIGHT
The legal availability of the Adler shotgun would benefit very few yet add to the safety concerns of the Australian public and diminish the effectiveness of our world famous gun control laws.
The capability of a few farmers to shoot feral animals on their property in quick succession must not take precedence over the possibility of a lunatic or terrorist being capable of eight shell rapid fire in a shopping mall.
