Illawarra people with a disability, their families, carers and supporters came together at Kembla Grange yesterday to push all governments to inject funds into the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Illawarra MPs joined hundreds of residents at the The DisabiliTea event - one of 1700 held as part of the Every Australian Counts campaign.
The grassroots movement aims to ensure that a fair and transparent national disability support scheme is put into place so people get the equipment, therapy and support they need.
Chief Executive for Life Without Barriers Claire Robbs said the existing support was "fragmented, inconsistent and inadequate".
"As a result people can fall between the cracks and not get the help they need in a timely and fair fashion," Ms Robbs said.
"We support the need for a fairer and more comprehensive approach to providing support to people with a disability, their families and carers.
"We want this year's DisabiliTea to send a clear message to Australia's political leaders that the NDIS has strong community support."
Ms Robbs said there was only funding for 20,000 people when the NDIS starts next year.
