The Mount Keira Summit Park kiosk will be operated on a five-year licence, which is due to take effect from December 15.
However, the council’s tender documents state the successful operator would have the option to open up shop prior to that date, should the kiosk’s installation be completed early.
As an added incentive, the council has vowed to waive rent for the first six months as financial compensation for “the disruption of business which may occur” during planned upgrade work over a four-week period next year.
The 2017 works include footpath access, disabled parking, concreted areas, outdoor furniture and a shelter structure.
The kiosk, which spans an area of about 29 square metres, will be a “40-foot new build high cube container” with two window cut-outs covered by steel awnings.
Proposed kiosk opening hours would be from 10am to 6pm, seven days a week.
The air-conditioned container will be fitted out with equipment like a coffee machine, triple deep fryer, six-burner electric cooktop and oven, along with a drink fridge and upright freezer.
The lessee would be required to provide furniture for outdoor seating and fit-out the kiosk with any additional equipment as required.
The council documents state the electricity supply at Mount Keira is on a power generator and the type of additional equipment would need “careful consideration”, so as to “not overload the generator”.
Tenderers have been asked to provide a copy of a proposed menu and pricing as part of their application.
Previous experience and the variety of food and drink to be offered account for the bulk of the quotation assessment criteria.
Destination Wollongong general manager Mark Sleigh and Labor Member for Keira Ryan Park have long advocated for improvements to the 9.4-hectare Mount Keira Summit Park – under the mantra of “a mountain of possibilities”.
A draft vision for the Summit Park was placed on public exhibition earlier this year. Kiosk quotations close on November 10 and should be lodged via the council’s eTendering portal at tenderlink.com/wollongong/
