Across the last two days of the festival a “Reading Tree” will be set up at Wollongong Central with free activities like kid’s library, book hunts, arts and crafts plus special guests.
Authors Sandy Fussell of Sad, the Dog and Hilary Bell of Alphabetical Sydney will give readings; performer Murray Cook, the former Red Wiggle, will also join the list of entertainers to keep the kids engaged.
“In early childhood it’s important for children to be exposed to all sorts of texts and writing and hearing language in all different forms,” Cook said.
“It’s really positive and important for children to be involved in this program with the festival and also for them to understand where it comes from, that writing is creation from other people.”
Meantime, the full writers festival is on now with more than thirty events, though most will be from November 23 to 27, with local, national and international artists.
