There are a number of scenarios which could play out at the Bacardi Surf Tour final at Curl Curl Beach, as he protects a 280-point lead.
But Squiers knows winning the event will ensure the crown is his.
“I probably surf better under pressure anyway,” he said.
“So I don’t mind being in this situation, but I’ll go out there just trying to win the event, knowing it will be enough if I do.
“There’s a lot of ways it can go on Sunday, but I’m not going to worry about any of it, as much as an early exit for other guys would make it easier for me.”
New Zealand-born Manly resident Dayyan Neve is Squiers’ biggest title threat, while Sydneysider Blake Thornton is also in striking distance.
Neve and Thornton need to win the event if Squiers makes the semi-finals and loses.
But if the Illawarra Surf Academy coach makes it to the decider the crown is his, as was the situation for Culburra’s Tyler Wright on the world tour earlier this month.
If Squiers crashes out early, it would bring Bondi’s Perth Standlick and Avoca’s Dane Atcheson into the equation.
“It’s exciting, having a few guys going into the last event knowing they can win it,” Squiers said.
Squiers said he has bounced back quickly after bowing out early in the Battle Royale invitational event at Stanwell Park, won by Byron Bay’s Soli Bailey.
“I hadn’t been well for a few days and I definitely wasn’t great on the day,” he said.
“I think I needed a four point ride to get through to the next round and I couldn’t find it, sometimes it just doesn’t happen for you.”
The early forecast points to clean 2-3m swell for Sunday’s final, providing Squiers the opportunity to post big scores.
“I’ve only surfed at Curl Curl maybe three times,” he said. “And from memory the conditions have never been great when I’ve been there, but the forecast is looking pretty good at the moment.
“But that’s part of the tour, you have to adapt to the conditions and make the most of it.”
However, Neve, who made it as high as No.19 on the world surf league championship tour rankings in 2009, is primed to spoil Squiers’ party.
“I haven’t been surfing much lately but I have been eating and drinking healthy,” Neve said. “I have put on 4kgs of muscle in the last few months for big power turns, Curl Curl is one of my favourite beaches so I should win easy.”
