A five-year-old girl has been hit by a car as she departed The Shepherd Centre at West Wollongong on Wednesday .

Police say the girl darted across Dempster Street about 11am, into the path of an oncoming car.
She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Wollongong Hospital with a fractured femur and a possible shoulder injury.
The girl, who is understood to suffer a hearing impairment, had moments earlier attended the centre with her parents.
Wollongong Police Sergeant David Potts said the girl was with her mother, but then ran to catch up with her father on the opposite side of the road, where the family’s car was parked.
“The child is going to be thankfully alright,” Sgt Potts said. “She’s shot across the road without waiting for mum.”
A woman aged in her 20s was at the wheel of the car involved.
Police do not expect to lay charges.
“The poor [driver] is a bit traumatised, as I think anyone would be,” Sgt Potts said.
