The prospect was incredibly daunting for the single-mum of two, though she accepted the challenge.
Coates admitted she may have been nervous at recording her own music as she’d become such a creative force with Goodall and wasn’t sure how her fans would react.
“I miss Tristan, but … I’m really enjoying it and the songs play really nice on stage,” she said of jumping out of her comfort zone.
“They’re a little bit more country and a bit more personal, lyrically, and also when you’ve got four albums writing a set is a real drag. When you’ve got one album it’s really easy.”
Coates is feeling confident with her first solo tour which will make its way to Bulli’s Heritage Hotel on Friday October 28.
“I love that room, the leather and the drapes,” Coates said of the hotel she’s played at numerous times with Goodall.
“I have venues that I go back to because I like the sound and I like the feel, it’s a really big factor.”
Meantime she says The Audreys will return to the recording studio eventually, once she gets over the nervous excitement of her first solo endeavour.
