The event, to be held at the southern end of park from 10am on Sunday, gives the families of children starting primary school the chance to meet other parents and students.
It also offers tips about how to make the transition a little less stressful.
“Starting big school is an exciting step and we want it to be a stress-free experience for our soon-to-be kindies and mums and dads,” Wollongong lord mayor Gordon Bradbery said.
“This event is a celebration to recognise how important this big step is in a child and family’s life.”
The picnic, co-ordinated by Wollongong City Council and Big Fat Smile, is free but RSVPs are essential via 4283 9943 or transitiontoschool@bigfatsmile.com.au.
