Wollongong police are appealing for information in relation to two car-jacking incidents.
Police are calling for public assistance following two car-jacking incidents in Wollongong last night.
Wollongong police Inspector Brian Wyver said a good samaritan was assaulted and robbed after pulling over to assist a man sitting in the gutter along Murray Road, in East Corrimal, around 5.45pm.
The man, who was described as being between 25-30 years old, caucasian and muscular, with two diagonal tattoos on his chest, allegedly accepted a lift from the good samaritan, only to assault him as he cleared a space in his car.
Police allege the man held his thumb to the driver’s back, claiming it was a knife, and demanded the man’s keys and wallet.
He then allegedly punched the man in the mouth, and attempted to drive off in the car.
The alleged offender fled with the man’s wallet after the good samaritan managed to grab his keys and run to a nearby caravan park for help.
In an unrelated incident, a couple were car-jacked after stopping for petrol at a Russell Vale service station around 6.55pm, last night.
A caucasian man described as being six-foot-two, of medium build with shaved hair, wearing a grey-brown polo shirt and dark pants, allegedly entered a car and threatened to kill the passenger as the driver paid for petrol.
The man allegedly drove off in the car after the passenger got out.
The stolen silver Mitsubishi Lancer, registration number CID-57J, has not yet been located.
