While I definitely consider myself a beer geek, I don’t see myself as a beer snob.

Actually, I dislike much of the beer snob attitude. In particular their habit of looking down on people for drinking something they consider dull and boring.
While I have no time for Corona – with or without lime – I truly don’t begrudge those who like to drink it.
Hell, it’s beer. It’s supposed to be fun. Why get my nose all out of joint because someone else is drinking something I don’t like?
So they like to drink Hahn SuperDry. So what? It’s not like their decision in any way, shape or form affects me.
This, of course, goes both ways. I don’t mock anyone for drinking mainstream stuff, so I expect them not to give me grief for drinking something different.
Besides, sometimes we can find common ground. Like the Summer Bright Lager with Mango (or, “mango flavour”, if we’re being 100 per cent accurate).
Summer Bright Lager in its original form frankly bores me to tears. Should be called Summer Bland Lager such is the almost total absence of flavour.
But what is a flaw in the original product is an advantage in this mango version.
That lack of flavour effectively works as a blank canvas here, so the mango notes very much take centre stage.
The mango flavour is slightly sweet but still a long way from that uber-sweet lolly water some like to call “cider”..
It’s enough to keep you interested but not so much that the sweetness turns you off.
The mango flavour turns what is a dull, boring beer into something that goes quite well with summer.
I reckon I’ll be drinking this a few times when the weather gets warmer.
