Greens candidate Cath Blakey is campaigning for a fairer and more sustainable Wollongong.
Her platform 'for our community and coast' reflects her commitment to the city she's lived in her whole life and its natural environment.
She wants to see a better plan for long-term jobs, especially green jobs.
She sees great potential in the renewable energy sector and thinks the Greens bill to secure the steelworks’ future is vital.
“Steel will be crucial for producing the technology for a cleaner future,” she says.
Cath sees local TAFE as essential to the provision of relevant and accessible training for young people. TAFE should be publicly funded and its courses low in cost.

The right to secure and affordable housing is another basic issue for Cath.
“I know what it's like to try to find a place to rent, deal with landlords and constantly face the threat of having to move again,” she says.
“Renters should be able to get repairs done without risking their security of tenure.”
Cath loves Wollongong's beaches and escarpment and is concerned about the effects of climate change and pollution.
She wants to see a long-term approach to preserving the coast from overdevelopment.
She is determined to protect our water supply from damaging mine expansions, and to safeguard our marine life by restricting the use of plastics that end up in the ocean, and by banning shark nets.
