The destructive Hurricane Sandy, which has caused dozens of deaths across the Caribbean, is preparing to strike the east coast of the United States.

The huge storm, generating winds of up to 150km/h, is set to make landfall in New Jersey or Delaware in the coming hours.
Millions of people have been affected by the Category 1 hurricane in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Virginia.
Hurricane Sandy killed more than 50 people in the Caribbean and caused extensive damage and destruction in the island nations of Cuba, Jamaica and Haiti.
