Illawarra Academy of Sport Golfer Danielle Vasquez has had a weekend to remember recently in taking out both the NSW Mixed and Women’s Foursomes Championships at Campbelltown Golf Club.
The 16-year-old combined with Darcy Boyd of Toukley on the Saturday to take out the Mixed Foursomes by one shot from Tom Gill and Lucy Harris.
Vasquez was thrilled with the victory, her first major title in open competition.
"It feels really good. We started off average, but we made a few birdies coming in,"
"Mum and Dad are happy, they're very proud," the 16-year-old said.
She backed it up on Sunday when she paired up with Darcy’s Younger sister, Annika, to take out the women’s title by two shots from Alison Gatland and Jacqui Morgan of Monash Country Club.
“I played okay. I was pretty consistent which is good."
“My driving was good today. I think we made a pretty good team,” Vasquez smiled.
Two trophies in a weekend have certainly earned the girl from Shellharbour some bragging rights.
“I’ve never had two wins in a weekend before; I’m very happy.”
The highlight of the round according to Vasquez was the last hole in which the pressure was on but Annika faced a tricky little bunker shot.
“Annika hadn’t hit a bunker shot all day, then she hit a flop shot out to a 15 foot, and I made the putt for par,” she said.
