More than 250 students will shine up their flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, ukuleles, xylophones and PVC percussion pipes for the annual Combined Public Schools Instrumental Festival at the Wollongong University Hall.

“There are very few opportunities for primary school students to perform in a large scale production like this and in doing so it keeps instrumental music alive in out public schools,” musical director Greg Costello said.

“The festival also caters for students who play an instrument but might be fro a more isolated area or from a school that does not have a band program.”

Now in its 47^th year, it showcases the work of school bands with 2016 the largest in the event’s history.
