Illawarra rugby’s prospective rep talent will play trial matches on Sunday ahead of rep squads being named for the 2017 season.
University and Illawarriors coach Shaun McCreedy has been appointed both Illawarra Rugby’s Senior and Junior Director of Coaching and is implementing a program for the juniors with a similar structure to the successful seniors program.
‘’We want an unified approach for the kids from under 14s, so by the time they are ready for Colts and seniors they are familiar with the brand and goals of being an Illawarra Rugby rep player,’’ McCreedy said.
The first rep sesssion for Under 14s, U15s, U16s, U17s was held indoors at the Wollongong Uni Sports Hub, with this Sunday’s second session to be trial matches before officials name a squad of around 30 for each age group for 2017.
The Illawarriors have won the past two NSW Country Championships and several top players have gone on to represent NSW Country.
