Budding historians from Wollongong Public School have received a National History Challenge award for their research into Sir Douglas Mawson’s Expedition through Antarctica.

Akira Naumovski, Craig Wang and Ju-Yu Chin were presented with the National Award for Years 5 and 6 at Parliament House on Tuesday.
Cunningham MP Sharon Bird was on hand in Canberra to present the award to the ‘’deserving’’ youngsters.
‘’It was a pleasure to meet with Akira, Craig and Ju-Yu today during their visit to receive the top award for their year 5 and 6 category,’’ Ms Bird said.
‘’These local students have worked hard to win this award doing both their school and their community proud.
‘’I would like to congratulate them for their efforts on behalf of the Illawarra region.’’
The National History Challenge is a research-based competition for students, providing them with an opportunity to research world history as well as Australia’s past.
The challenge emphasises and rewards quality research, the use of community resources and effective presentation.
