Wilson could have easily walked away following another painful losing season but that's not her style.

Combining full-time work with co-captaining the WNBL team, she has thrown her energy and trademark competitive drive into restoring the pride of her beloved Capitals.

Wilson has played more than 18 seasons with four different clubs, and no one is enjoying the Capitals' recent winning run more than she is.

"It's been a hard couple of years for the UC Caps but we've put all that behind us now," Wilson said.

"We've got such a good group this year and such a wonderful team to be around and that's something I'm pleased about and something that I feel so lucky to be have been involved in."

She fondly remembers her back-to-back WNBL titles in 2004 and 2005 as well as the Capitals' last championship in 2010.

"We were behind the whole game, it was in Melbourne, there was this huge thunderstorm with a few minutes to go and no one could hear anything," Wilson said.

"It was just a crazy game that we managed to come back and win, that was certainly really special."

If she was to lead the current crop of Capitals back to the championships she said it would rank high in her glittering career.

"If we can get into the finals and even go further then that would be so special," Wilson said.

"We believe we can do it so it's just about getting some consistency now. If I could finish my career on something like that it's almost too good to even dream about."

But convincing coach Paul Goriss to let her slide into retirement would be another challenge.

"We'll see how the season plays out and we'll have those discussions a little bit later," Goriss said.

"I know she's enjoying this season with the group that we've got and she's probably playing better than she has in the last couple of years."

"I'm not saying no to the possibility of her not coming back. I'd like to consider her staying around and playing a role, we've even had a discussion about her transitioning into coaching if she wants."

And Wilson's thoughts on the league she has contributed so much to? "We've got to get back on TV, that's the biggest thing.

"Other than that the talent and the standard of the league is just through the roof, it really is one of the best leagues in the world."
