With Blackbutt’s Mikaela Patterson and Gerringong’s Grace Stewart in the team, the Jillaroos were forced to a shoot-out after a 1-all draw with Spain.
However, a 3-1 result in the shootout ensured they would not leave empty-handed.
Spain led after just six minutes when Florencia Amundson converted a penalty corner, but Laura Gray equalised from the field in the 28th minute.
Stewart, who played in the Hockeyroos’ Olympics campaign in Rio earlier this year, and Patterson were forced into the bronze medal playoff after a loss to Argentina in the semi-finals, played on Saturday (AEST).
The Jillaroos lost 4-2, fighting back from 3-nil down to make it 3-2, only to concede a late goal.
A rising force in women’s hockey, Argentina went on to win the final 4-2 over the Netherlands.
