In primary the winner was Ruby Eckerman, 12, of Austinmer Public School won with her ad for M & Michaels Footwear. It was the second year in a row a student from the school won.
“When my school signed up for it I thought it would be really fun so I decided to do it. I found out they (M & Michaels Footwear) are turning 60 and pop art was around then and I decided to do an Andy Warhol inspired piece,” she said.
Second place went to Abigail Esteves, 11, of Lake Heights Public School with her Dr Glenn & Partners Medical Imaging ad. Third was Sunday Windsor, 10, of Mt St Thomas Primary, with an ad for First National Brailey Figtree.
High School winner was Madelina Camilleri, 16, of Woonona High School, who designed an ad for Woonona Medical Practice. It follows her third place in 2015. “Our schools has done it three years in a row so I wanted to enter it again. I looked at Woonona Medical Practice and researched their business. I did it because I love doing art and creating exciting things. I’m so happy.”
Second was Marley McGee, 16, of Oak Flats High School, for an ad about The Shellharbour Club. Third went to Kate Kershaw, 15, of Holy Spirit College whose ad was for Cossies R Us.
Woonona High School has a plan to use the winning $1000 to run an art workshop for the students next year..
