Christmas is still a few weeks away but SPAT have already had two performances of ‘Wish for a Wife’, with more performances set for this Saturday and Sunday.
SPAT’s 42nd annual pantomime is written and directed by Bernadette Le Mesurier.
She said ‘Wish for a Wife’ had all the elements SPAT audiences have come to expect – star-crossed lovers, a nasty villain and henchmen, oblivious minions, a wonderful chorus, and of course the hirsute dame.
‘’Working on this year’s pantomime has been quite an adventure,’’ Le Mesurier said.
‘’It is very exciting to write a play that you love and then see the script being brought to life by actors who share your vision and are as enthusiastic about the story as you are.
‘’It is especially gratifying to watch some of our less experienced actors embrace the show and develop their skills during the rehearsal period. We are very lucky to have such talent in our local area.’’
The director said the pantomime was basically about a boy and a girl who fall in love.
When the boy returns from an England trip home to Stanwell Park, he decides to propose to his love.
But SPAT steps in and ask him to propose on stage as part of a pantomime.
‘’What could possibly go wrong?’’ Le Mesurier asks.
‘’With a cast of zany characters, lots of songs, dances, and jokes for children and adults alike, 'Wish for a Wife' is a fun outing for the whole family.’’
Performances are held at the Stanwell Park CWA Hall on Saturday, December 10 at 2pm and 7.30pm, and Sunday, December 11 at 3pm.
Tickets are $15/$10/ $45. To book visit http://www.spat.org.au/ or call 4294 4060.
