Twenty-one generous students from Berkeley Public School dropped by the shelter on December 1 and donated some tasty treats as well as toys.
School assistant principal Melanie Bourne said each year students of Berkeley Public SRC fundraise for two charities.
Deni, one of the students, said they chose RSPCA Unanderra as one of their charities this year ….’’so the animals would feel at home in the shelter’’.
Lily Bugden said they wanted to help the animals.
‘’They might be injured so we are helping them play better and the treats are used to help train the dogs,’’ Lily said.
‘’The animals have had a hard time so we want them to have a good life,’’ fellow student Austin added.
Ms Bourne said the fundraiser was simple.
‘’The students could wear non-uniform and even come to school in an animal onsie if they wanted by simply donating a bag of dog treats, tennis balls for the dogs to play with or soft toys the cats could snuggle into,’’ she said.
The students collected over 50 bags of dog treats, 55 tennis balls and other toys for the dogs, 70 kilograms of cat food and two massive bags of soft toys.
The 21 students of the SRC from Year 1 to Year 6 personally delivered the items to the shelter to see first hand where their donations were going and listen to the staff talk about how their donations help.
