The inshore reefs have been holding some nice fish with reds, rat kings and bonito being caught and results indicated the early morning session are the more productive.
Gary Trotter scored himself a huge 17.5 kilo cleaned kingfish but unfortunately injured his shoulder in the process.
The rocks are starting to kick up well with bonito, tailor, salmon and kings all hitting metal lures. Spots at Kiama blowhole, Bass Point and Gerroa’s blackhead have been holding good schools of baitfish in close to the rocks so maybe someone should float out a livie.
The currents are starting to push south so a few keen locals headed wide for an early season marlin and Lee Graham and his mate Keaton Hartley found a lone blue that went around 120 kilograms and reported the dollies were seen holding station around the FADs.
Lake Illawarra has been flathead central with plenty of duskies being caught around the drop-off and through the main channel.
Zman plastics have been working well but for the bigger fish, diligently work along the edges of the sand banks by slow trolling deep-diving hard body lures.
Whiting have been also around in the main channel and blue swimmer crabs are starting to thicken up with plenty of locals bagging out.
Some of the local and not so local fresh and brackish water creeks have seen some sensational bass topwater action but you might have to dodge a few snakes.
