Council insisted they would continue to sponsor the service without disruption until a provider was found.
“Shoalhaven City Council remains strongly in support of the provision of quality early childhood education as it is so important. Accordingly, the decision has been made to seek an alternative quality provider of the service and transfer the service to that provider,” Mayor Amanda Findley said.
Council assured educators they would be kept informed throughout the transition.
“Family Day Care educators have been promised they could be consulted throughout the EOI process from now on, which is what we wanted from the start,” educator Jaime Horton said.
Councillor Andrew Guile submitted a motion which would call on the Member for Gilmore and the relevant Minister to reconsider the impact it was having on Family Day Care.
"This decision was made on the basis of a staff report that was poorly conceived. It conflated very real financial cuts from the Federal Government with the risk for which the General Manager held personal responsibility,” Cr Guile said.
"Since this decision, I've spoken with other Councillors and there seems to be agreement the decision to transfer the service to another provider was premature.”
