A Mount Pleasant woman who stole her son’s identity in order to take out multiple credit cards in his name has launched an appeal against her jail sentence.

Lesley Alexandra Stojcevski was sentenced to 12 months behind bars in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday after confessing to maxing out four credit cards over a three year period using her son’s personal details.
She racked up a combined debt of more than $40,000, with the con only uncovered in May this year when her son was knocked back on a credit card application.
Stojcevski was jailed for a minimum of four months and spent Tuesday night in custody before being released on appeals bail on Wednesday.
Meantime, court documents reveal Stojcevski’s scam began in January 2008 when she applied for a Visa card through the National Australia Bank using fake documents, including payslips, she had created in her son’s name.
The application was granted, with the bank setting a $5,000 limit on the card. The credit limit was increased to $15,000 over the next few years, however Stojcevski eventually “exhausted” the account, with the total amount owed exceeding the credit limit.
She carried out the same con with Westpac Bank in April 2010, Citibank in June 2010 and ANZ Bank in November 2010, taking out cards worth $3,200, $10,000 and $7,000, respectively.
Each of the cards was maxed out within six months of their issuing date. Police estimated Stojcevski owed $41,485 on all four cards.
Her son discover his mother’s con when he was knocked back for a credit card earlier this year.
Stojcevski confessed her crime to police in May, saying she had been under “extreme financial hardship” at the time.
As part of her bail conditions, Stojcevski must report to police twice a week and live at her Mount Pleasant address until her appeal is heard in Wollongong District Court early next year.
