A fact that may interest 4200 cruise ship visitors arriving on Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas when they arrives on Tuesday.
Flagstaff Hill is also considered one of the best vantage points to watch the ocean giant sail into Port Kembla Harbour.
Almost twice the size of its sister ship, Radiance of the Seas, which docked in the city on October 30, Voyager will appear even larger on the horizon before heading into Port Kembla with the Five Islands forming a backdrop behind.
The largest ship in the world when she was built Voyager is expected to arrive between 7am and 8am and will be greeted by a tug boat off Flagstaff Hill before cruising parallel to City Beach and into the harbour.
Flagstaff Hill is being suggested as one of several locations to get the best view of the large cruise ship coming in.
City Beach in Wollongong and Heritage Park at Port Kembla are also expected to be popular.
Destination Wollongong general manager Mark Sleigh said the arrival of Voyager of the Seas and its 4200 passengers and 1200 crew will be a majestic and amazing sight.
“Passengers will disembark at Port Kembla Harbour and be transferred to the Wollongong Arts Precinct outside of the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre where there is easy access to both the city and the Wollongong Harbour foreshore,” he said.
“The ship will depart Port Kembla Harbour around 5pm, offering more great viewing opportunities as she sails towards Sydney. Voyager of the Seas will return to Port Kembla Harbour on January 18, 2017.”
