The Bureau of Meteorology’s latest forecast predicts a partly cloudy Sunday with a maximum of 26 degrees on the coast.
The last time coastal temperatures on December 25 exceeded that mark was in 2005, when the mercury hit 27.7 degrees at Bellambi.
If Albion Park reaches its festive forecast top of 28 degrees, the temperature will match the maximum recorded on Christmas Day in 2009.
Bellambi and Albion Park’s hottest December 25 days were recorded in 2001, when temperatures at both centres reached 34 degrees.
Records extend 19 years and 17 years, respectively.
Christmas 2016 should be relatively dry, with only the slight chance of an afternoon shower.
The mercury should climb into the 30s next week.
