A coup for the southern Illawarra surf town, picked for its “quality waves and beautiful landscapes”, the Santa Monica based surf league is being held in Australia for the first time in six years and will also be based in Kiama in 2018.
Out of the 36 men and 18 women competing in the two week event, two will be crowned winners.
Previous winners include world-class surfers Sally Fitzgibbons, Joel Parkinson, Andy Irons and Adriano de Souza.
Finals of the event will wrap up on January 15.
